We worked on demonstrating balance today. We had a class discussion about what we thought balance meant and then used our bodies to show balance by standing on one foot. Our goal was to build a structure that used balance.

After listening to The 3 Billy Goats Gruff and a discussion about bridges, the class went to work designing and building a bridge that would allow the 3 goats get to the green grass and avoid the troll! Today the students got to harvest all the vegetables we planted during the spring. They were super excited and amazed as they dug sweet potatoes out of ground. We grew the sweet potatoes from one potato purchased at the grocery store. We have already placed one of the potatoes in water so that we can grow more slips. We haven't figured out what to make...perhaps a sweet potato pie or maybe sweet potato fries.
Ms. Livingston's class is learning about experimental design so we had the perfect opportunity to try the Mentos and soda experiment. We identified the key components of an experiment - independent variable (3 brands of soda), dependent variable ( amount of soda displaced during the reaction), constants (amount of soda and number of Mentos). It was very exciting and I'm sure the students will remember the concepts!
We have some new "arrivals" in our garden. We spotted a few more things growing on our last visit. Soon we will have some green peppers and poblano peppers!
